Who is behind Atheenea?

I am a health scientist with a focus on health behaviour and management. After several years working in health promotion, I wanted to go further and put tools directly into people’s hands that make navigating health a little clearer, a little simpler, and a little more in their control. Digital apps, built with genuine clinical understanding, felt like the most direct way to do that. And if I’m honest: I had always wanted to build something myself.

So I decided to learn to code. It’s not easy, but when you do, it opens the door to a huge and creative world. And the learning never stops.

My first app, NextBook, came from a simple personal need: a book release tracker that didn’t exist yet. It became my learning ground, from first lines of code to the App Store. But health is where my heart has always been. As a health scientist, I bring a science background to every product decision, which means I care as much about getting things right as making them beautiful.

Why Atheenea?

Atheenea is inspired by Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, knowledge and craft but also of courage and independence. As a woman making her way in tech, I recognised something of myself in her. I chose this name because it reflects both what I do and who I am: someone who builds intelligent, helpful tools and carves out her own space to do it.

Atheenea is my personal studio and a space for everything I create independently. It’s just me, my ideas, and good coffee.

What I work with

  • Swift & SwiftUI
  • A strong belief in privacy because your data belongs to you
  • A (health) science background that shapes every product decision
  • A conviction that good design and good science are not opposites
